The Invisible Push

I was watching Michael Phelps accomplish what seemed to be the
impossible by winning his eighth gold medal of The Beijing Olympics
and becoming the most decorated Olympic athlete of all time. I could
not help but think all of the people along the way that helped him
make his dream come true: his family, friends, coaches, and teammates
of course.

But I was also thinking about the people that he could not
name or even know. The passerby on the street that wished him well,
the e-mail from a child who wanted to someday swim as fast as him and
the millions who cheered him on as they read and watched his swim to
victory.

In life we are always told to remember the people who got
you there and that the journey to the top is never a solo one. I think
that it is also important to remember that with every success and with
every extraordinary accomplishment there is an invisible push from
people we will never see or meet. An invisible push that helps us to
face our fears, overcome our challenges, and go one step further. An
invisible push from those whose words, thoughts, and prayers helps us
to be golden.

Ed -

The invisible push – what a great concept! It’s so true. Those “random acts” of kindness and inspiration can have such a profound impact. They keep us going – they can make us push harder.

And the beauty of them – they are true words that come from the heart.

Is there any difference to the “invisible push” of a competitor or how someone interprets those words (like those of Ian Thorpe and the French Relay team) – the “negative” words that inspired Michael to work even harder?

Great concept Ed. We all have many invisible forces behind us that keep on pushing us to greatnes. Do we listen to these voices or not?

Great insight and connection Eddie…as i was reading I immediately thought of that “push” that gave Phelps that split second win. Thank you for continuing to give me words to ponder and also helping me to always look down paths I have walked by or never even seen.
